Thanks a lot for your help. You basically mean that NIW based I485 need permanent job or job offer. I still have a few questions.

1. In 2004-2005, I saw many persons got green card during their ph.d study. So they got the green card purely by their lucks since USCIS did not ask them for job verification.
-They must have had the job offer before USCIS approved their I-485. You can ask them the details. Without a job offer (permanent or renewable), USCIS will never approve the I-485.

2. Similarthings to many postdocts, whether postdoct job can not be used for employment verification for NIW based I485, or depends on USCIS.
-See answer for Q1. Postdoc is OK, but to be safe reason, many people would like use research associate instead of Postdoc research associate. Many employers do not care about whether you use Research associate or Postdoc research associate for your GC application because this kind of title does not affect the employer anything.

3. Contract job can not be used for the employment RFE (please confirm)
-Depends on how you des-cribe the job. If the job can be renewed, and you has the expectation to be employed continuously, it should be OK.
