问父母签证问题

My parents visited me in 2006. After 6 months, they applied to extend the stay (I-539) for another 3 months (From July 16 to Oct 15) in June 2006.

They application did not get approved until December 2006. Because I was waiting the approval note (new I-94) and booked the flight too later, they went back to China on Oct 17.

After I received the I-539 approval note in December 2006, I realized that they were over stay in US for 1.5 days.

They want to apply the visa again this year.

My questions are:

Is it possible for them to get the visa this time? Any one meets the same problem before?

What is a good reason to explain the 1.5 days over stay?
