If you are primary applicant, you must notify Buffalo and your case will be transfer to Beijing embassy. That will take much longer (probably years) to get visa. If you don't notify, your case will be denied if they find that out.
Which stage are you in? Have you got second letter asking for physical exam? If you do, probably you will get visa in six months.
So try to keep your legal status here.
