I ran into the same issue. My parents got their GC 2 years ago. We live in TX. I checked with social security office and I was told that they will not have any benefit in first 5 years. However, my county has a public hospital would provide some medical assistant to low income family called PHP program. I helped my parents to apply that PHP program and got approved (as long as their income less than 40K). I knew another friend who lives in VA experienced similar thing. He got his parents some program from medical school in VA, covers pretty much everything.

The only issue is that you can only select doctor from that hospital. And waiting time might be longer than us. But coverage is great. My parents only need to pay $10 for doc. visit...rest hospital covers.
