在申请美国公民期间，可以回国吗？

请教各位，我正在申请美国公民，目前面试的通知还没有收到，想请问在转公民期间，可以回国吗？我可不可以在国内等？比如说等我收到面试的通知后，我再回来可以吗？万分感谢！
