中文的＂申请人＂，在英文中有不同的词儿，并对应不同的含义。

Petitioner －这个申请人，是指提交的申请不是为了自己，而是为了别人。这个别人，即受益人 beneficiary. Petitioner 也可叫 Sponsor.
象公司为你申请 H-1B 即属于此。

Applicant －申请人同时又是申请的受益人。
比如你自己申请工卡 EAD.
