If you find a new job, you had better use EAD to work, not H1. You and your family had better stay in AOS. You and your family only can go out of U.S. to get the H1/H4 visa to re-instate your H1/h4 status, but if you leave U.S. to do that, your I-485 will be affected. You only can use AP for travel without affecting your I-485.
