向老师求教材-急!!

我被原公司裁员后,公司律师告诉我,我一旦找到了新工作,必须通知原公司.他们将缩短我的termination date, 从原来的3/1 变成 whatever date that I start my new job. 我不懂有什么必要.我已找到新工作,准备用EAD(第一次激活EAD).请问大师,这是法律规定吗? 多谢!!!
