When we can apply for US citizen?

Hi,

I got GC at June of 2004 and my China Passport will expire at July of 2009. And it is not convenient for me to renew passport (6 hour driving).
I am wondering if I can change into US citizen before passport expires, so I do not need to renew my passport again
