请教Pjiang：关于Reentry-Permit application

Pjiang Da xia,

Two questions regarding reentry permit application:

1. Does an application have to be handled through the current employer and its designated lawyer? I am planning to switch to a job in China and ready to live outside of US for a couple of years. Can I apply through my own lawyer after I quit the current employer?

2. How long on average between the filing and biometric appointment date? I am calculating what is the best time for me to move out.
