Can F-1 status be kept after submission of I-485?

We have just submitted I-485. The primary is H-1, and dependent is F-1. If the primary uses the EAD would that effect the non-immigrant status(i.e. F-1) of the dependent?
(Just want to make sure if I-485 does not go as well the dependent will be able to finish the degree without interruption)
