Please help! my desperate situation

My H1b will be expired in Feb next year! My spouse is preparing EB1 right now, not submit yet.

My hu*****and said once he submit EB1 (140 nad 485 all together), I should be able to apply EAD card, and be able to work using EAD.

But, I was told from other source that I should be able to work after EAD has been APPROVED, instead of being submited.

1) Which is correct? can someone please help me?

2) And most important, how long will take to get EAD improved? he is plannng to sumbit EB1 this Octuber, is this too late for applying my EAD at that moment?
