You mentioned that you applied EAD in 2005 and 2007, but EAD has only one year validation. So I guess that your IO was under an impression that you DIDN'T have "continuous employment authorization", and that is why you were asked to give an alternative, "evidence to establish that you have not been employed in the U.S. without authorization".
Your IO treats you as AOS.
