About USCIS 485 status inquiry

Hi, I just called USCIS. The representative was nice, but did not give any
valuable information, including name check.

She said she could only put a status inquiry and I should expect the result
within 45 days.

The problem is, they had put status inquiry twice for me last year, but I
never received any report.

Is this normal? My friend get result for their inquiry every time.
