中国护照延期

1998年8月我第一次领到中国护照， 2003年延期到8/10/2008。现在又到延期的时候了。

我听说， 这次延期会把原先的旧护照收走，对吗？我想留下这本护照，我就只能申请护照遗失，现在来的及吗？要如何做？
