if you asked me a few days ago, I would also say, send the $340 check. Because previous I-485/765/131 instructios were only clear about waiver of fees for first EAD/AP filing but were ambiguous about renewal. Now it is clear that free for EAD renewal. And probably you can also apply that to AP renewal, at your own risk.
