Does it work to contact the Senators?

I am stuck in the naturalization NC for almost 2 years. Although I am in no immediate rush I do want to get it completed. My boss told me that she is willing to help me to talk to our Senator (her and the Senator used to work or go to school together - something like that). Can a Senator really help to speed up the case? Do you guys have any experience like this?
