legal status for NIW

Dear all,

I have a question here for my NIW case.
If I quit/lose a job before I file 485 application, do I have to find another job right away since I am still H1-B holder at this time? Will there be illegal gap for my stay in US if I do not have another similar job right away? Could this jepardize the green card application?

Also, after I file 485 application, can I stay in US without a job since my status is in pending?
