again, same experience. it is not a mistake made by INS officer, it is the nature of US immigration law. if you wife does not say she will stay with you as long as your HIB is valid, the officer can give you any time(my wife got three months)... it is your reponsibility to check the date! this was told by local INS officer when i asked the same quesion you are asking right now.

in my experenice, we found out before I94 expired, we applied a H4 visa expentension in US.
