Employment verficiation letter--please help

filing PERM now, lawyer asked for employment verification letters. I tried to get one from my previous manager. He did give me a copy but downplayed what i did (as he already did). I asked for adding some revision. He was not happy to do it especially when he got to know this is for GC but signed on the revised version.

I am wondering--during the process of PERM, I 140 and I 485, will DOL or USCIS contact previous employers to verify the detailed job deion? I did write the fact, but the previous manager was not very helpful. If DOL/USCIS will call/email to check, i think i might need to get a letter from others? such as a coworker who won't backbite me?
