Your background status is AOS after sub-mitting 485, no matter you use AP or not.For example,after 485, you can still stay after H1 expires. If you get an H1 stamp, you will resume H1 status. Now is what you are told AOS/H1. However, you will see debates everywhere on forums on this issue, a gray area for interpretation. Even some lawyers still insist that after using AP, H1 will be lost. What should you do?

In principle, USCIS should give you 3 year if your 140 approved, 485 pending with PD backlogged. However, it's not a surprise to get only one year. Different officer interprets on a different way. It's not a must on practice.
