Xiaobaitu and other experts: Please help AP questions

I submitted 485 in August but didn't apply for AP. I need to visit China for a business reason in March 08. Should I apply for AP asap or it is too late to apply? I'm on H1B; is there any risk to return if I don't have AP?

Please advise!! Thank you!!
