H1 B background checking

I applied H1b visa in germany 80 days ago and embassy told me that they don't receive any information from Washington. I just want to doubt if it is really in the process for background checking in Washington for some one told me some wrong things may happen if you do not get response within two months. How to know my status in Washingtion, is it possible to call some place to check that?
