no fingerprints

My wife has a weird symptom. Since about two yrs ago, the skin on two of her fingers started to come off. The doctor couldn't figure out why. We suspected that she must be allergic to something in the water (detergent maybe). Anyway, right now, she doesn't have "fingerprint" on two fingers and we got notice to do fingerprinting by the end of this month. Shall we worry about that? If so, what can we do about that? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
