because one time he went to US from Canada without the US visa before, from that time, everytime he went to Canada and back US, the custmer often gave him hard time to go through the custom. maybe after changing the passport, maybe he will not be afried of going to Canada and back US, now he is a US green card holder!
what do you think of that?
