Question about grace period!!!

My OPT in ending at August15. Am I legally staying in US between August15 to October 1 this year bfore my H1B start. Someone said it is ok because I can wait 60 days in US for my H1B starting which call grace period. But others said I can't unless I have one legal visa such as F1 or F2 to cover that 45 days. Please tell me who I can trust. Thanks!!!
