绿卡持有者可否延长呆在中国的半年限期？

我已给父母申请了绿卡，父母的一个大问题是每次回过只能呆半年，时间短不说，来回的费用也高。各位已给父母办了绿卡的，可有什么高招能让父母回去多呆一些时间又不影响他们的绿卡持有资格的？ 请与我和网上有相同需要者分享。

另外，is there anyway that this law can be changed (like have a petition by big number of people)?
