of title is dependent on your job responsibility, qualification request, and your salary. The researcher is university is not a permanent position, the same with Postdoc in company. I am afraid the IOs only judge your title on your salary and responsibility which your manager in company can easily manipulate it because it's not permanent position and you don't need him to increase your payment

> you can negotiate with your company about the job title. if they can't change the title in some big companies, you can ask them to write the responsibilities which align with your GR applications. If your new salary is not significant lower than your current salary, it should be OK. Title itself doesn't matter. for example, "technical staff engineer" in some big companies is very high level position (>12 years experience), but in some small companies, every tech support engineer is "technical staff". Many contract works can be transfered into permanent in many companies. Some guys even register their own company to do contract work to keep their status legal. I think salary and job deion is the key for you.
