Renew driver's licence

Today, I went to renew my driver's licence. Damned DOT asked for a legal document to prove my legal stay in US. The problem is my H-1b expired last Nov and I am using EAD to work. My 485 has been pending for almost 2 years. I don't even know what visa status I belong to and what type of document I need to show. Damn damn 911, we're the real victim. Does anybody have the similiar experience?
