急!!! 485 pending, H1 延期被拒. (详情见内)

本人在学校工作, 140已批, 485(包括765) pending,申请H-1延期时,因系里耽误,且寄错了地方,等寄到正确地址时,为时已晚(大概晚一两天). H-1 status批准,但延期被拒. 请问这种情况下还能否合法工作?
我的理解是,485 pending允许我在美合法居住,H-1 Approval允许我合法工作,加起来就没有问题了. 是这样吗? 若不是,有什么办法保住工作吗?
