Yes, it is true once u used ur EAD, you lose your H4 status automatically. So now you can't extend ur H4 application since you are not in H4 status. Don't do that. Even if I-140 is denied, if H1 holder doesn't use his EAD, he still in H1 status. So you can easily apply h4 in abroad. Just my 2 cents.
