Trip out of US

H1-b now and I-140 pending. LC approved earlier. In case of emergency trip out of US, can I use H1-b to return to US without causing trouble to I-140 and later I-485? What is the advantage and disadvantage of using AP (instead of H1-b) when I-1485 is pending? Thanks in advance.
