when should I marry?

My wife and I am going to marry soon. But he is going to be american citizen arround September this year. If I marry her now, she still has green card, not citizen yet. Should I marry her now and apply for green card after Sep? Or marry her after Sep?
Normally, we got to wait for 2 years after the green card application. But I heard if I marry her now, waiting period would be shortened. let's say now it is May, Then I only need to wait till May of 2006, not Sep of 2006 to get green card. Is that right? Acturally, I am a little bit confused about this, anyone helps me? Thanks in advance!
