Question about H1b and AP/

I applied AP (in my I485 package). If I use AP to come back next January, I cannot transfer (not renew) my H1b, is that right?
I saw some discussion that you only can renew you H1b or you only can transfer you H1b after you renew it because you used AP.
I am really confused about this. My situation: H1b will expire in early 2009, and will go back to visit my parents in Dec.. My original plan is to use AP instead of applying H1b to come back. However, I am scared by these discussion because my position is a postdoc and I don't know if I neet to transfer my H1b (for another job) before my current H1b expires.

Any explanation will be appreciated.
