To keep legal status, can he apply for H4 now ?
--yes, you need do it if he can noy find job recently.

Will that invalidate his 485 application ?
--No for Eb1A/NIW, but he need job soon, he can use EAD work.
--yes for EB1b/LC/Perm, so if you guys file 485 have 180 day, and he can find a employer to tranfer H1, you might keep I-485.

Is there any other options to keep his legal status ?
--合法呆：1是转H1, 2)转H4 3)什么都不管进入AOS(Eb1A/NIW),用EAD工作。
