OPT to H1-B, help!!!

OPT to H1-B with three months gap. If RFE of legal status during the gap, is it fine to obtain a new I-20 with ending date of Oct. 1 to keep status? If approved, will a new I-20 with ending date of Oct. 1 terminate the H1-B? Thanks a lot.
