If you apply for US passport for your son, it means your son automatically abandon his PRC citizenship by PRC constitution. So if he has US passport, he can't apply for Chinese travel document. However, he can apply PRC visa in PRC embassy or consulate general depend on where you live. You can go to PRC embassy website to find official info. Good luck,
