HELP!!! Apply F-2 after H-1B?

Hi,

My company has already filed H-1B for me starting 10/1/2004 through premium processing, and my current OPT expires on 4/30/04. My attorny suggested me filing a change of status to F-2 since my hu*****and is still in school, so that I can keep a legal status between May and October. However, the school official says that once I file F-2, my H-1B will be invalid. My H-1B number will not be usable any more and I'll be stuck in F-2. Does any one have similar experience or is doing the same change of status to fill the gap? What does your attorney say?
