请问法居士，假博士 party member Q

I am asking this for a friend who is applying for green card. He was a ccp member for a short time about 5-10 years ago and is now very troubled by the communist party member question on I485. Do you know if one answers yes, what other info one need to offer to avoid a rejection of the application? Can they find it out if he says no? Thanks a lot for your help!
