File 485 by myself while 140 pending

My 140 is still pending. I just asked my lawyer for application of I-485. He asks for $6000 for filing I-485 for myself and my hu*****and. Isn't this ridiculously high?
If I do it by myself, what documents should I ask from the lawyer? Since my I-140 is still pending, does he have a way to disturb my application?
