H1B not approved yet, can I go back to China for vacation?

I'm currently holding a H4 visa, and apply for H1B. It needs several months to get my H1B approved. Now, I want to go back to China for 2 months and come back the USA with H4 by Oct 1. My future employer said this is fine, but I'm worrying whether this will cancel my H1B application. Would anyone give me some advice? Thank you so much.
