Can I work after getting the receipt of the H-1b renewal? TO Xi

Please help! My school will apply for my H-1b renewal in June (waiting for the salary increment) while my current H-1b expires in August. It is likely that the renewal won't be approved before the current H-1b expires. So, is it true that once I get the receipt of the H-1b renewal, I can start working? Xiaobaitu and other experts, please help! THANKS A MILLION!
