回复：USCIS requests the work authorization for the summer work

If you were F-1, then you should had obtained CPT. It could be the stamp and signature on your I-20. But if you were working for the same university that you studied at, then CPT might not be required.

If you did not have CPT, then it was illegal work and emplyment for you and the university.
