profit is difference between sold price and selling price minor fee. for example, you bought BIDU@86, you sold it@126， you make 30 a share. If you keep it and don't cash it, you haven't make money yet. There are many day-traders. They buy stocks in the morning and sell it afternoon. They still make money.
