The USCIS today reports that the random selection process or lottery for cap-subject H-1B petitions was conducted yesterday, April 12. Petitioners whose cases were selected yesterday will receive receipts. The USCIS advised that petitioners who received a receipt prior to the running of the random selection process - that is, prior to April 12 - should not consider it as evidence that the case was selected since it could not have been chosen in the random selection process.

USCIS reports receiving 123,480 H-1B petitions on April 2 and 3 that are subject to the Congressionally mandated cap of 65,000. For cases filed under the expedited premium processing service, the 15-day processing period began April 12, says USCIS.

There was no further update today on the number of petitions received for workers holding US Masters or more advanced degrees. These cases are subject to a separate Congressional cap of 20,000. On April 10, USCIS reported receiving 12,989 petitions requesting the US degree cap exemption. We will keep you updated.
