Tax questions about J1 visa

Dear All,

Last year was my third calendar year in U.S. Can I fill 1040 instead of 1040NR? My hu*****and worked too. If I fill 1040, can we fill seperately? What else should we pay attention to? If you have such kind of experience, would you please help me? Thank you very much.
