Yes, I filed I485 to adjust status within US after my I140 was approved. Now my big puzzle is: When I file I824 to transfer "the case" abroad, what does "the case" refer to? Does it refer to my approved I140 or my pending I485?

I read the information pages on I824. It explicitly says the applicant can only transfer an approved case. Do I get it right? I am very confused.
