You don't need the new employer sponsor anything

But it would be better if the new employer can give you an employment letter which states exactly the same or wordly very similiar to your LC petition job responsibility.

You can renew EAD by yourself or by your employer, it doesn't matter at all.

Meanwhile, you may use WOM or send a letter to the first lady to expidite your 485 process. Yours has just been pending too long....
