485 pending is not a safe status. You should have legal visa to keep your status. When you lose your current job, your H1 is invalid at same time. When you find a new job, you must re-apply H1b. If you want work with EAD, can you be sure when you can receive it in current situation? By the way, if you work with EAD, your status change to EAD, so it is no matter whether you have changed to H4. Conclusion is: change to H4 is better.
