Date on I-94 and Date of Visa Expiration

Friends, please help.
When my parents came, an immigration official at the U.S. airport wrote a date on their I-94 form, that is “May 10, 2007.” However, the visa on their passport will not be expired until October 2007. Can they just simply stay in the U.S. A. until October without doing anything?
Any consequence?
